Case Study: Wear Your Story

A Case Study in Storytelling Through Event Design

For WellTold 2026, Tellwell brought its nonprofit storytelling conference back with an experience built around connection, creativity, and, of course, great stories.

This year’s space-inspired theme carried throughout the event, and the badges were designed to be part of that story. Rather than feeling like a separate event necessity, they became another detail that helped bring the WellTold experience together.

A Badge Built Into the Story

Event Badger created custom attendee badges featuring WellTold’s playful space-themed artwork, personalized names, and coordinating branded lanyards.

The design connected directly to the visual world attendees experienced throughout the conference. From the illustrated characters to the colors and custom lanyards, each detail made the badge feel intentional to the event.

And with attendee names front and center, the badges still did their most important job: helping people connect.

The Benefits of Story-Driven Event Badges

A great event badge has a job to do, but that doesn't mean it has to feel purely functional. For TEDxFargo, thoughtful details helped the badge become another touchpoint in the overall attendee experience.

  • Part of the Event Experience
The badges carried the same space-inspired visuals seen throughout WellTold, making them feel like a natural extension of the event rather than a standalone credential.
  • More Personality, Less Credential
Custom artwork and branded lanyards gave attendees something more distinctive to wear than a traditional event badge.
  • A Consistent Visual Story
From the badge around an attendee’s neck to the larger event environment, the coordinated design helped carry WellTold’s creative direction through the entire experience.

More Than Something You Wear

At an event centered around storytelling, some of the best moments happen between sessions. A conversation over coffee. An introduction to someone new. A shared idea that turns into something bigger.

The WellTold badges were designed for those moments. They made names easy to spot, gave attendees a shared visual connection, and became part of an environment created to get people talking.

How Event Badger Can Help

At Event Badger, we create custom badges designed around the experience you want your attendees to have. From custom materials and shapes to personalized designs and branded lanyards, every detail can become part of the bigger event story.

Because your badge doesn’t have to sit outside the experience. It can help bring it together.

The Takeaway

WellTold 2026 showed how a functional event detail can become part of a much larger story. By carrying the conference theme directly into the attendee badge, Tellwell created a credential that supported connection while feeling completely at home within the event.
